Breast Care
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. DeTar Healthcare System provides helpful services to educate women on breast health, and encourage self-exams and routine screenings. We utilize imaging technology that may detect breast cancer at the earliest stages, when treatment can be most effective. The combination of caring technologists and imaging technology allows us to deliver quality care.
Digital Mammography
Mammography is an X-ray exam of the breasts used to screen for or diagnose breast cancer. DeTar Healthcare System offers digital imaging technology for mammograms. With digital technology, radiologists can zoom in on particular areas or change brightness or contrast for even greater visibility, and results can be read immediately. It offers numerous benefits to women, including:
-
Improved accuracy of screening exams, especially for women with dense breast tissue.
-
Less radiation exposure.
-
Greater image quality, reducing the need for repeat exams.
Scintimammography
Scintimammography uses molecular imaging to detect breast cancer. It is used for patients whose mammograms cannot answer all the physician’s questions. This exam may be ordered for patients with dense breast tissue, multiple suspicious lesions of clusters of microcalcifications, lesions, scar tissue, implants, etc. This machine uses a special camera that may detect cancers as small as 3 mm, and its ability to predict negative malignancies means many patients may be spared from more invasive treatments.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
Breast biopsy is performed to remove cells from a suspicious area in the breast to determine a diagnosis. Image-guided biopsy is performed when the abnormal area in the breast is too small to be felt, making it difficult to locate. A stereotactic biopsy uses a special mammography machine with ionizing radiation to help guide the interventional radiologist’s instruments to the site. The result is a shorter examination time that greatly improves patient comfort and convenience.
