Local Fundraiser to Support VISD Students' Pathway to Healthcare Careers
DeTar Healthcare System is proud to present “DeTar’s Jambalaya for the Cause,” a community fundraiser supporting the VISD Education Foundation’s Health Science Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program. The event will take place Wednesday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at both DeTar Navarro Café and DeTar North Garden Café.
Leading the kitchen for this flavorful fundraiser is none other than DeTar CEO Bernard Leger, affectionately dubbed “Chef Bernard” for the day. A native of Louisiana, Leger brings with him a rich heritage of Cajun cooking. “I grew up surrounded by the flavors of Southern Louisiana,” Leger said. “I’m proud to share my passion for Cajun cuisine in a way that gives back to our students and invests in our future healthcare workforce.”
For just $12 per plate, attendees can enjoy Chef Bernard’s signature jambalaya, served with a side and bread. All proceeds will go directly to support students in VISD’s Health Science CTE program. A Staff Bake Sale will also be held during the event, featuring a variety of homemade desserts—perfect for pairing with a plate of jambalaya or taking home for later.
Tickets can be purchased in advance in person at DeTar Navarro business office:
Monday–Thursday: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. – Noon
Cash or checks (payable to DeTar Healthcare System) are accepted.
Alternatively, online ticket purchases and donations can be made via the VISD Education Foundation.
Funds raised through DeTar’s Jambalaya for the Cause will help expand the training resources and curriculum available to students enrolled in VISD’s Health Science CTE program. DeTar Healthcare System has long been a committed partner in supporting healthcare education locally, most recently funding a professional-grade educational ECG machine for use by Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) students.
“DeTar has been a vital partner in helping us grow and sustain our Health Science program,” said Aaron Glaeske, executive director of the VISD Education Foundation. “Their generous funding of the ECG machine has already enhanced the learning experience for our CMA students. Additional support from this fundraiser will allow us to broaden our curriculum and better prepare students for real-world healthcare careers.”
This event is open to the public, and the community is encouraged to attend, enjoy a delicious meal, and help build a stronger pipeline for future healthcare professionals in Victoria. Explore the many options to support VISD Education Foundation at https://www.visdfoundation.org.
