DeTar’s “Bowls of Hope” Cereal Drive to Fight Hunger in the Crossroads Launches During Hunger Action Month in September
8/28/2025
DeTar Healthcare System is proud to partner with The Food Bank of the Golden Crescent (FBGC) to launch Bowls of Hope – A Cereal Drive to Fight Hunger during the month of September 2025 as part of FBGC’s Hunger Action Month Challenge. This drive aims to provide nutritious, easy-to-prepare breakfast options for families struggling with food insecurity throughout the Crossroads region.
September is nationally recognized as Hunger Action Month, making it the perfect time for communities to unite and combat hunger together. FBGC supports over 100 agencies across 11 counties including Calhoun, Colorado, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Jackson, Lavaca, Matagorda, Refugio, Wharton, and Victoria.
Cereal is among the most requested items at food banks because it provides a quick, nutritious meal requiring minimal preparation. “A simple bowl of cereal can fuel children and families who might otherwise go without breakfast. Your donation can make a meaningful impact by ensuring essential nourishment reaches those in need,” said Emily Weatherly, director of marketing at DeTar Healthcare System. “Together, we can make a difference — one bowl at a time.”
For added convenience, donations can be made online throughout September as part of the Hunger Action Month Challenge. Every $2 donation provides one box of cereal. “We invite you to join the $20 Challenge — every $20 donated supplies 10 boxes of cereal to help local families start their day with a healthy meal,” said Weatherly. Online donations can be made at https://givebutter.com/c/Hunger-Hero-Challenge/teams/detar-bowls-of-hope.
Contributions, whether at any DeTar location or online, directly support food pantries throughout the Crossroads region.
Donation barrels will be available throughout September at DeTar Healthcare System locations including:
- DeTar Hospital Navarro
- DeTar Hospital North
- DeTar on Demand
- DeTar Health & Fitness Center
- DeTar Cancer Center
- DeTar Medical Group Primary Care Clinic East (located on the campus of Texas A&M - Victoria)
“We know firsthand how important nutritious food is to overall health and well-being,” said Emily Weatherly, Director of Marketing at DeTar Healthcare System. “Earlier this year, our community’s generosity was remarkable during the Jars of Love peanut butter drive, where we collected over 4,400 jars to help local families. Now, with Bowls of Hope, we’re focusing on cereal to provide an easy, healthy start to the day for children and families facing hunger. We invite everyone to join us in this vital effort.”
Green donation barrels will be available at DeTar locations to accept cereal donations or those wishing to donate online can support at https://givebutter.com/c/Hunger-Hero-Challenge/teams/detar-bowls-of-hope.
