Parents of children cared for in the facility’s level 3 NICU invited to reunite with nurses, staff, and neonatologist to celebrate their children
VICTORIA, TEXAS – On May 11, the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at DeTar Hospital North will host its annual NICU reunion. Families of those who have had a baby in the NICU are invited to reunite with nurses, staff, and the in-house neonatologist to celebrate.
“When newborns are admitted to our NICU, a special bond is formed between the parents and nursing staff. As the only Level III NICU in the Crossroads area, we’re able to respond immediately to unexpected emergencies for pre-term and fragile newborns –allowing for around-the-clock care and the chance to develop a deeper relationship with our patients. This designation allows parents to remain close to home and not drive elsewhere for specialized care.” says Bernard Leger, CEO.
Level III NICU designation is the second-to-highest level of neonatal care that is recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and requires 24-hour, in-house coverage provided by a board-certified neonatologist and demonstrates the facility’s ability to care for critically ill newborns with complex medical conditions.
“The hearts of our patients are truly in our hands when we’re caring for their newborn. We have had to take care of critically ill infants and those born as early as just 23 weeks, so having an event that allows us to acknowledge the child’s achievements and the bonds we formed with them and their families while under our care is very important to us,” adds Mary Claire Bradshaw, women & children’s center director.
Clinical care during these precious yet unpredictable moments is collaborative and personalized to ensure that families are supported and their babies receive the care they need. The birth of any child is an important milestone, but when NICU care is required, DeTar Hospital North’s NICU facility licensing designation allows parents to forgo experiencing major stressors such as their baby being transferred to a hospital outside of the Crossroads.
For families that have had a baby admitted into the NICU or those currently receiving prenatal care, the NICU reunion offers the opportunity to meet DeTar Hospital North nurses, staff, and the in-house neonatologist to learn more about the entire facility. Families are invited to attend and reconnect with the compassionate caregiving team who supported them during this vulnerable time.
