DeTar is proud to recognize its dedicated cardiovascular team during Cardiovascular Professionals Week, observed February 8–15, 2026. This annual recognition honors the highly skilled professionals who play a vital role in preventing, diagnosing and treating heart and vascular disease for patients and families across the Crossroads.
Heart disease remains the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States, making the work of DeTar’s cardiovascular professionals essential to the health of the Victoria community. From routine screenings and diagnostic testing to advanced, life-saving procedures, DeTar’s cardiac care team provides services designed to improve outcomes and save lives close to home.
DeTar offers a wide range of cardiovascular services, including cardiac diagnostics, interventional cardiology procedures, cardiac rehabilitation, chest pain evaluation, stroke care and advanced cardiac technologies such as leadless pacemakers that support improved recovery and patient outcomes.
The program’s commitment to excellence is reflected in its recognitions and accreditations. DeTar is a Primary Stroke Center certified by The Joint Commission and an Accredited Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology, designations that demonstrate the hospital’s readiness to deliver rapid, high-quality care when every second counts.
“Our cardiovascular professionals are truly driven by heart and guided by skill,” said Jolene Balboa, director of cardiovascular services at DeTar Healthcare System. “This team brings experience, compassion and a deep commitment to patient care every single day. Whether it’s educating the community on prevention, responding in an emergency or guiding a patient through recovery, their work makes a lasting difference for families across our region.”
That commitment to education was on full display throughout Heart Month. Last week, DeTar hosted its annual Heart Expo at the Victoria Community Center, growing the event to just shy of 400 attendees. Members of the cardiovascular team provided heart and stroke education and taught Hands-Only CPR, equipping community members with simple skills that can help save a life in the critical moments before emergency responders arrive.
The team also participated in the 2026 Crossroads Heart and Stroke Walk, where they continued teaching Hands-Only CPR and sharing prevention education with walkers and families attending the event.
“Cardiovascular care doesn’t stop at the hospital doors,” Balboa added. “We are committed to meeting our community where they are — with education, prevention resources, and the highest level of care available right here in Victoria.”
DeTar encourages everyone to know their numbers — blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and weight — as up to 80% of heart disease is preventable through lifestyle changes and early detection.
During Cardiovascular Professionals Week, DeTar extends its sincere appreciation to the nurses, technologists, therapists, physicians and support staff who make this life-saving work possible and who continue to elevate heart care for the Crossroads community.
