Could Low-Dose Radiation Therapy Help Your Arthritis Pain?

For those living with arthritis and persistent joint pain, finding relief can feel like a journey with no easy answers. On Monday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m., DeTar Healthcare System will offer the community an opportunity to learn about another potential option—low-dose radiation therapy (LDRT)—during its next arthritis seminar, presented by Stephen Brown, M.D., FACR, board-certified radiation oncologist with DeTar Cancer Center.
The presentation will focus on LDRT, a non-invasive treatment that uses small, targeted amounts of X-rays to help reduce inflammation and relieve pain in arthritic joints. Dr. Brown will explain how the treatment works, what patients can expect and who may be a candidate.
With more than 25 years of experience providing advanced, patient-centered cancer care, Dr. Brown specializes in targeted radiation therapies and works closely with other specialists to develop individualized treatment plans.
“When you’re living with arthritis and chronic joint pain, it’s important to know that there may be more than one path to finding relief,” said Dr. Brown. “Understanding the available treatment options can help patients have informed conversations with their healthcare providers and determine what approach may be right for them.”
The seminar is part of DeTar Healthcare System’s 2026 Arthritis Seminar Series, a year-long educational program designed to help individuals living with arthritis, hip and knee pain and mobility issues better understand their treatment options. Topics throughout the series include non-invasive therapies, exercise, weight management, medication therapy and the latest minimally invasive joint replacement options, including robotic total joint replacement.
“Our goal is to help patients understand their treatment options and provide the information they need to take the next step toward better mobility and quality of life,” said Stephanie Schuckenbrock, director of orthopedics and bariatrics at DeTar Healthcare System.
The Aug. 24 seminar will be held in the DeTar Hospital North Education Classroom, located in the building directly across from DeTar North, next to the Grapevine Café, at 110 Medical Drive, Victoria, Texas 77904. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP is required for those planning to attend, as a light meal will be served following the seminar.
