DeTar Healthcare System Donates Over 150 Blankets to Area Organizations

One frigid November morning on her way into work, Kelly Leuschner, Director of Dialysis at DeTar Healthcare System, noticed several people sleeping outside near the Salvation Army. Knowing the temperature would only continue to drop and another cold front was coming into town, Leuschner gathered her blankets from home and brought them to the shelter.
“I knew we needed to help our neighbors, especially those who are vulnerable,” Leuschner said.
Leuschner’s compassion inspired a warm blanket drive throughout DeTar Healthcare System that was led by DeTar’s Fun Committee which is a group of employees dedicated to creating fun, engaging activities throughout the year.
“Our team wanted to do something meaningful as the colder weather approaches,” Karina Lopez, Assistant Administrator at DeTar Healthcare System and a leader of the Fun Committee, said. “We hope these blankets bring warmth and comfort to individuals and families who need it most. We’re grateful to everyone who joins us in giving back this season.”
This holiday season, DeTar employees, volunteers, patients and visitors have helped spread warmth and compassion this holiday season by donating over 150 new and gently used warm blankets to support community members in need.
“I’m incredibly proud of our employees for recognizing a need in our community and stepping into action,” said Brett Maxfield, CEO of DeTar Healthcare System. “Their compassion reflects the heart of our organization and our commitment to supporting the well-being of the Crossroads region.”
The blanket drive benefited The Salvation Army of Victoria, Victoria Christian Assistance Ministries - VCAM and Mid-Coast Family Services, helping ensure individuals and families stay warm during the colder months.

Members of the DeTar Fun Committee pose with two full barrels of blankets to donate to Mid-Coast Family Services and VCAM. Donations received earlier this month were donated to The Salvation Army of Victoria.
