Sweet Success: DeTar Volunteer Services Bake Sale Raises Over $1,700 for Kerr County Flood Relief
8/7/2025
DeTar Volunteer Services is thrilled to announce the overwhelming success of its community bake sale, held Thursday, August 7, in the main lobby of DeTar Hospital Navarro. Thanks to the generous support of the public and the dedication of DeTar staff and volunteers, the event raised more than $1,700 — all of which will go directly to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, providing aid to families impacted by the recent devastating floods across Texas.
From cookies and cupcakes to pies and brownies, the sale featured a wide variety of homemade baked goods, all lovingly prepared and donated by DeTar volunteers and supporters, including several DeTar Healthcare System employees. The enthusiastic turnout and community spirit were a testament to the power of compassion and the deep ties that bind our region together.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to support this cause,” said Patty Scevers, President of the DeTar Volunteer Services Board. “Every treat purchased brought us one step closer to helping fellow Texans recover and rebuild. It was truly heartwarming to see our lobby filled with smiles, sweet treats, and a shared sense of purpose.”
DeTar Volunteer Services extends sincere thanks to the community for showing up with such generosity, and to the many DeTar staff members who made the event possible through their time, talent, and teamwork. The volunteers also expressed their appreciation to employees who contributed baked goods, promoted the event, and helped make it such a standout success.
This bake sale is just one example of the kind of community-focused culture we’re proud to foster at DeTar. Volunteer efforts like this help support not just the hospital but the broader community, exemplifying the spirit of service that drives the DeTar mission forward. Volunteers play an essential role across the DeTar Healthcare System, dedicating thousands of hours each year to enhance the experience of patients and visitors alike.
Upcoming Volunteer Event
Looking ahead, DeTar Volunteer Services invites the public to its upcoming Bingo with Friends Volunteer Recruitment Event, taking place Tuesday, August 26, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the DeTar Education Classroom (located in the MediCenter, next to DeTar Hospital Navarro). Attendees will enjoy light refreshments, games, and have the opportunity to learn about the many rewarding ways to get involved as a DeTar volunteer.
“Volunteering at DeTar is a way to make meaningful connections while making a real difference in people’s lives,” said Scevers. “We welcome anyone who wants to be part of something positive and impactful.”
