During the Victoria City Council meeting held on Tuesday, May 13, Mayor Duane Crocker officially recognized National Nurses Week (May 6–12) and National Hospital Week (May 11–17) with a formal proclamation honoring the commitment and excellence of healthcare professionals throughout the community — with a special spotlight on the dedicated team at DeTar Healthcare System.
In the proclamation, Mayor Crocker praised the nurses, physicians, staff, and volunteers at DeTar for their profound impact, compassion, and unwavering service, saying, “The team at DeTar Healthcare System consistently goes above and beyond to serve patients with dignity and excellence, embracing innovation and collaboration to improve health outcomes and enhance the quality of life for our community.”
The proclamation aligns with the national theme for National Nurses Week 2025, “The Power of Nurses,” acknowledging the vital role nurses play in delivering high-quality, compassionate care every day. It also underscores the importance of National Hospital Week, celebrating hospitals as essential institutions in safeguarding public health and wellness.
“DeTar Healthcare System stands as a pillar of strength, healing, and hope for the Crossroads region,” the proclamation reads. “During times of crisis and calm alike, the caring team members exemplify what it means to be the heart of healthcare.”
Representatives from DeTar Healthcare System attended the meeting and received the proclamation on behalf of the hospital’s more than 1,000 team members who serve the community across both DeTar Hospital Navarro and DeTar Hospital North.
“We are incredibly grateful for the City of Victoria’s recognition of the exceptional men and women who make up our healthcare family,” said Bernard Leger, CEO for DeTar Healthcare System. “This proclamation is a meaningful reminder of the value our team brings to the lives of patients and families every single day.”
The proclamation encouraged all Victoria residents to join in celebrating healthcare workers and recognizing their critical contributions to public health, resilience, and healing.
