Dr. Karim Heras Joins DeTar Medical Group, Continuing His Journey with DeTar Healthcare System

DeTar Medical Group welcomes Karim Heras, M.D., a board-certified family medicine physician and recent graduate of the DeTar Family Medicine Residency Program, to its team of providers.
Dr. Heras is practicing at DeTar Medical Plaza, 601 E. San Antonio St., Suite 304 W., where he provides primary care for patients of all ages. He is accepting new patients, with same-day and same-week appointments often available.
For Dr. Heras, joining DeTar Medical Group marks the next chapter of a journey that has brought him from Mexico City to Victoria — and from a passion for helping others to becoming a physician who now serves the same community where he completed his medical training.
Born in Mexico City and raised in Delaware, Dr. Heras developed an early interest in helping others that ultimately led him to pursue a career in medicine. He earned his medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara before continuing his training in Texas through the DeTar Family Medicine Residency Program.
That connection to DeTar continued when Dr. Heras was among nine residents who graduated from the DeTar Family Medicine Residency Program in 2026. The program’s June 2026 commencement ceremony marked a decade of graduate medical education and a milestone of 59 graduates since the program’s founding.
Dr. Heras was one of the nine graduates who chose to remain at DeTar after completing residency, joining DeTar Medical Group as a family medicine physician.

As a family medicine physician, Dr. Heras provides care for a broad range of acute and chronic health needs while emphasizing prevention, wellness and patient education. His approach is centered on developing individualized care plans and helping patients take an active role in their health.
His services include: preventive care and wellness exams, diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses, chronic disease management, health screenings and immunizations, patient education and wellness support and coordination of referrals to specialists.
With his addition to DeTar Medical Group, Dr. Heras brings his medical training, commitment to family medicine and established connection to the Victoria community. His decision to remain at DeTar following residency allows him to continue caring for patients in the community where he completed his graduate medical education.
