DeTar Volunteers Invest in Smarter Patient Care with New Transport Chair
8/18/2025
DeTar Volunteer Services has made a meaningful contribution to patient care with the donation of two new nestable wheelchairs to DeTar Hospital Navarro. The $3,400 purchase was funded by proceeds from DeTar’s Volunteer gift shops at both the North and Navarro hospital campuses.
These new transport chairs are designed with both patients and staff in mind. The chairs don’t fold, which makes them stronger and more stable, and they include features like lift-up armrests for easy seating and a smooth ride that doesn’t jostle the person being transported. Plus, they’re stackable and easy to store—a big help in busy hospital areas.
“We’re always looking for ways to make life a little easier for patients, visitors and the staff who care for them,” said Patty Scevers, president of the DeTar Volunteer Services board. “These chairs are just one example of how our volunteers help create a more welcoming, comfortable experience at DeTar.”
DeTar volunteers and staff will use the new wheelchairs to help transport patients and guests throughout the hospital. “Thank you to the DeTar volunteers for seeing a need and helping to make yet another organizational improvement for patients and visitors,” said Heidi Wolf, CNO of DeTar Healthcare System. “The addition of these wheelchairs not only enhances the patient experience, but also supports our staff by giving them the right tools to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care.”
This donation highlights DeTar Volunteer Services’ ongoing commitment to supporting quality care across the healthcare system.
Beyond funding special equipment, the organization also builds community through events and volunteer recruitment.
