DeTar Launches Warm Blanket Drive to Benefit the Salvation Army - Now through Dec. 13

DeTar Healthcare System has launched a Warm Blanket Drive to support neighbors in need this holiday season. Now through December 13, community members are invited to donate new or gently used clean blankets. Donation bins are available at DeTar Hospital North and DeTar Hospital Navarro, and all collected blankets will be gifted to the local Salvation Army.
The idea for the Warm Blanket Drive originated with Kelly Leuschner, director of dalysis at DeTar, who also serves on DeTar’s Fun Committee, a group of employees dedicated to creating fun, engaging activities throughout the year. During the cold snap earlier this month, Leuschner noticed several people sleeping outside near the Salvation Army on her way to work. Moved by the sight, she brought blankets from home to help provide warmth. Her actions inspired the Fun Committee to organize a broader effort to collect blankets for those in need.
“I’m incredibly proud of our employees for recognizing a need in our community and stepping into action,” said Brett Maxfield, CEO of DeTar Healthcare System. “Their compassion reflects the heart of our organization and our commitment to supporting the well-being of the Crossroads region.”
The Fun Committee, led by Karina Lopez, assistant administrator at DeTar Healthcare System, regularly spearheads creative initiatives to bring joy to staff. This time, their focus shifted to serving the community.
“Our team wanted to do something meaningful as the colder weather approaches,” said Lopez. “We hope these blankets bring warmth and comfort to individuals and families who need it most. We’re grateful to everyone who joins us in giving back this season.”
DeTar Healthcare System encourages staff, patients, and the greater Victoria community to participate and help make a difference.
