12/30/2025
DeTar Healthcare System is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Peterson, Jr. as its new chief operating officer, effective immediately.
Peterson joins DeTar Healthcare System with extensive operational leadership experience in hospital and healthcare settings, most recently serving as assistant CEO at Lake Granbury Medical Center in Granbury, Texas. Lake Granbury Medical Center is a 73-bed acute care facility with a Level IV Trauma designation and Primary Stroke accreditation, offering a broad spectrum of acute and ambulatory care services across its main campus and multiple offsite locations.
In his role as assistant CEO, Peterson provided administrative oversight for key service areas including imaging, physical therapy, laboratory services, environmental services and food and nutrition. He also served as facility and clinic compliance officer, chaired the environment of care committee, and was responsible for facility and clinic property leases. Peterson led several significant initiatives, including the supervision of major construction projects such as the opening of a free-standing emergency department and an emergency department refresh and triage expansion. Through these efforts, he helped strengthen access to care and enhance service delivery throughout the medical center’s service area.
Prior to his role at Lake Granbury, Peterson held progressive administrative leadership positions with the Tennova Healthcare system in Knoxville, Tennessee, gaining experience in hospital operations, clinical support services, construction and capital planning and outpatient growth.
“Paul brings a depth of healthcare operations experience and a relational leadership style that aligns with our mission to deliver high-quality care close to home,” said Brett Maxfield, CEO of DeTar Healthcare System. “His proven ability to lead complex initiatives, support clinical and non-clinical teams, and expand access to services will strengthen our operational excellence as we continue to grow and serve the Crossroads community.”
Peterson earned a Master of Science in health care administration from Trinity University in San Antonio and a Bachelor of Science in healthcare management, cum laude, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
