DeTar Healthcare System Honors 2025 Award Recipients

Clint Sparks, R.N., Rusty Strickland and Brenda Martin, RRT, recognized for exceptional leadership, service and commitment to patient care

DeTar Healthcare System is proud to recognize three outstanding team members whose dedication, leadership and service have made a lasting impact on patients, colleagues and the organization. Clint Sparks, R.N., has been named Employee of the Year, Rusty Strickland has been named Non-Clinical Manager of the Year, and Brenda Martin, RRT, has been named Clinical Manager of the Year.

These annual awards recognize individuals who exemplify DeTar’s vision and values while helping advance the organization’s mission of delivering compassionate, high-quality healthcare to the Crossroads region.

Clint Sparks, RN – Employee of the Year
A dedicated member of the DeTar team for 22 years, Clint Sparks serves as charge nurse on the 5 East medical-surgical unit, where he is known for his unwavering commitment to patients, colleagues and exceptional patient care. Clint consistently goes above and beyond to ensure patients receive the support they need, proactively coordinating care, strengthening communication among healthcare teams and helping create a safe, organized and compassionate environment.

Respected by physicians, providers and fellow employees alike, Clint is recognized for his leadership, teamwork and willingness to step in wherever help is needed. Whether responding to emergencies, assisting other nursing units, mentoring staff or identifying solutions to improve patient care, he leads by example and consistently puts patients first.

Rusty Strickland – Non-Clinical Manager of the Year
Rusty Strickland has been a dedicated member of the DeTar team for 20 years and serves as manager of facilities. Known for his reliability, knowledge and commitment to excellence, Rusty plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, comfortable and efficient environment for patients, visitors and staff.

A master electrician and respected servant leader, Rusty oversees critical facility operations and has successfully guided projects ranging from equipment installations and infrastructure improvements to emergency response efforts during hurricanes and power outages. His proactive approach, problem-solving skills and commitment to mentoring others help ensure uninterrupted operations and support the delivery of quality patient care every day.

Brenda Martin, RRT – Clinical Manager of the Year
Brenda Martin serves as director of respiratory therapy and is a driving force behind the respiratory care provided throughout DeTar Healthcare System. Under her leadership, the respiratory therapy department has built a reputation for delivering compassionate, patient-centered care while continuously advancing clinical excellence.

Brenda is committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for patients by fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement. Beyond her clinical leadership, she is deeply invested in employee engagement and community involvement, frequently volunteering her time to support staff events, organizational initiatives and community activities. Whether mentoring team members, assisting with Hospital Week celebrations or supporting colleagues across departments, Brenda leads with enthusiasm, compassion and a genuine commitment to making DeTar a great place to work and receive care.
