DeTar Healthcare System Celebrates Cancer Center's Grand Opening
4/25/2023
VICTORIA, Texas (April 25, 2023)– DeTar Cancer Center’s Grand Opening celebration took place on Thursday, April 20th, on the DeTar Hospital Navarro campus. The celebration began with a blessing of the newly opened department, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, introductions to the oncology medical staff and tours of the facility. Oncologists began seeing patients at the Cancer Center in January, but this was the first time since the Sneak Peek in 2022 that the public was invited to celebrate a grand opening.
“DeTar Cancer Center has expanded access to cancer care for patients across the South Texas Crossroads,” states Bernard Leger, chief executive officer. “The centralization of services into a single location allows DeTar’s oncology team to provide the right care, at the right time–and all close to home.”
The $15.5 million investment enhances the patient experience by housing physician care, infusion therapy, advanced imaging and radiation therapy in one convenient location. The medical team includes Dr. Mediha Ahmad, radiation oncologist; Dr. Sara Ashraf, Dr. Ali Jafri and Dr. Jose Valladares, medical oncologists and hematologists, as well as support team members in oncology nursing, radiology, laboratory services, registration and oncology patient navigation.
“We understand that a cancer diagnosis can often be overwhelming and believe supporting our patients is an important part of our care,” adds Leger. “So we created an environment for patient care that provides quality care and individualized treatment while making convenience and comfort a priority.”
DeTar Cancer Center was designed to provide support services addressing everything from education and care management assistance, to support groups. In addition to onsite services in Victoria, DeTar Medical Group physicians also see patients at outreach clinics throughout the Crossroads, including Cuero, Edna, Hallettsville and Port Lavaca.
The 12,000-square-foot building utilizes design techniques that improve the delivery of care and enhances the patient experience. In addition to imaging and radiation therapy areas, DeTar Cancer Center features 11 patient exam rooms and 12 chemo and immunotherapy infusion bays and is conveniently located on the DeTar Hospital Navarro campus on the first floor of the professional building with a separate entrance and parking lot designated for oncology patients.
