DeTar Healthcare System and the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent Launch 2026 Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive
2/13/2026
Goal: 5,000 Jars and $5,000 to Feed Families Across the Crossroads
DeTar Healthcare System, in partnership with The Food Bank of the Golden Crescent (FBGC), proudly announces the launch of the fourth annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive, taking place March 2–23, 2026. After collecting 4,051 jars of peanut butter during last year’s drive, this year’s goal is to collect 5,000 jars and raise $5,000 online to help families facing food insecurity across 11 counties in the Crossroads region.
The public is invited to contribute by donating in person at all DeTar locations or online at www.tfbgc.org/jarsoflove.
In 2025, the Jars of Love campaign expanded from an employee initiative to a community-wide effort. Over 40 local businesses and organizations, including Texas A&M-Victoria and Victoria College, hosted collection bins and promoted the $20 Challenge, where every $20 equaled 10 jars of peanut butter.
“Food insecurity is a harsh reality for thousands of families in our region,” said Brett Maxfield, CEO of DeTar Healthcare System. “We were amazed by the generosity our community showed last year, and this year, we’re hoping to grow that impact even further. Whether someone donates one jar or contributes online, every act of giving matters.”
Why Peanut Butter? Peanut butter continues to be one of the most requested items at food banks due to its:
- High nutritional value
- Long shelf life
- Versatility
- Kid-friendly appeal
“The need for peanut butter never goes away,” said Robin Cadle, CEO of the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent. “It’s one of the few shelf-stable sources of protein that families can count on. Thanks to DeTar Healthcare System and our supporters, we’re able to stock this essential item across our 11-county service area.”
In-person donations can be made at collection bins located in the lobbies of all DeTar facilities:
- DeTar Hospital Navarro
- DeTar Hospital North
- DeTar Outpatient Rehabilitation Center
- DeTar Health and Fitness Center
- DeTar on Demand
- DeTar Cancer Center
Online donations can be made at www.tfbgc.org/jarsoflove, where $2 = 1 jar of peanut butter. Local businesses are also encouraged to host donation bins or engage their teams in donation challenges.
Kickoff Event – March 7, 2026
DeTar’s Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive will officially begin with a kickoff event at the TFBGC Farmer’s Market on Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.. Community members are invited to stop by, bring donations, and learn more about the initiative. And, for those that donate, there will be a prize wheel to spin to thank you for your donation.
“Hunger isn’t limited to any one group—it affects working parents, children, seniors, and veterans,” said Cadle. “Many families are working hard but still struggle to keep food on the table. A simple jar of peanut butter can mean a lot.”
“This campaign shows what happens when people come together for a shared purpose,” Maxfield added. “Let’s make 2026 our biggest year yet.”
