DeTar Donates 230 Pairs of Socks to Mid-Coast Family Services During First “Socktober” Drive
11/13/2025
DeTar Healthcare System employees and community members once again came together to make a meaningful impact during the hospital’s “Socktober” drive, donating 230 pairs of new socks to Mid-Coast Family Services. The collection effort, led by DeTar’s dietary services team, supports individuals and families in need as colder weather approaches.
“Socks are one of the most requested—and least donated—items for those experiencing homelessness or hardship,” said Ginny Stafford, CEO of Mid-Coast Family Services. “Something as simple as a new pair of socks can mean comfort, warmth, and dignity for someone facing difficult circumstances. We are deeply grateful to DeTar Healthcare System and everyone who contributed to this thoughtful effort.”
During the month-long drive, DeTar employees and community members dropped off donations at the two hospital locations. DeTar leaders joined representatives from Mid-Coast Family Services to present the socks, underscoring the health system’s continued commitment to giving back to the Crossroads community.
“At DeTar Healthcare System, we believe caring for our community extends beyond hospital walls,” said Brett Maxfield, CEO of DeTar Healthcare System. “This initiative reflects the compassion and generosity of our employees, who continually find ways to make a real difference in the lives of others.”
Mid-Coast Family Services provides essential resources to individuals and families in the region, including support for those experiencing homelessness, victims of domestic violence, and individuals working to achieve self-sufficiency. As temperatures begin to drop, the organization is accepting donations of items to help keep people warm, including:
- New socks and underwear
- Blankets and coats
- Gloves, hats, and scarves
- Hygiene items and personal care products
Donations can be dropped off at Mid-Coast Family Services, located at 2010 N Navarro, Suite A, or the community can visit www.midcoastfamily.org for more information on ways to help.
