Sleep, What does it affect?
Did you know sleep affects your daily life, your attitude, your performance, and even your ability to make clear decisions. If you are not getting a good night sleep, then you are probably not performing at your best.
Sleep disorders affect over 21% of the American population, and many of them go undiagnosed an untreated. The result of this unknown problem can lead to hypertension, stroke, heart attack, mental confusion, headache, irritability and excessive daytime sleepiness. And even more alarming are studies revealing 37% of people who are diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea but fail to seek treatment die within eight years. The good news is that sleep disorders can be detected and corrected with treatment.
Since 1989, the Sleep Disorder Center at DeTar Hospital Navarro has been devoted to improving the quality of life for those who experience sleep problems. The sleep lab is a state-of-the-art facility offering diagnostic studies and assisting physicians in the treatment of patients with a full range of sleep disorders. And the staff continues to maintain a solid commitment to excellence in all areas of polysomnography.
The staff members are highly trained and experienced sleep technologists registered through the National Board of Polysomnography who use clinical practice guidelines established by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
If you feel you may have a treatable sleep disorder, please discuss your symptoms with your primary care physician and ask him or her to order a study at DeTar's Sleep Disorder Center.
