The Women & Children's Center encompasses many aspects of family care from childbirth through childhood and from adolescence to post-menopausal years. Our mission begins with a family-centered approach toward the care of the childbearing family and remains consistent throughout the span of our services. Our caring and concerned staff assists women of all ages and their families to a state of wellness, and the consistency we deliver is enhanced by our beliefs in what health care means to the family.
We believe:
...the family is the basic unit of society;
...a family-centered program of maternity care supports the family,
prepares the family to function as a unit, and in doing so, helps
strengthen the family;
...birth is a natural, normal process;
...your baby's birth is special and unique;
...you, your family, your physician, and our staff are partners in providing
a comfortable, supportive atmosphere for your baby's birth;
...you should participate in planning, and we encourage you to take
responsibilities for your care;
...you should leave the hospital confident in your ability to care for
yourself and your new baby;
...you and all persons involved in your baby's birth should be treated with
dignity and respect;
...your developing child is special and unique;
...should your child require hospitalization, our family-centered approach
is adapted to provide your child, you and your family support and
quality care
...the measure of a hospital's value to the community is its ability to
provide for the physical, emotional and spiritual care of the patient and
his or her family throughout life; and
...the health care of women and their children is a unique responsibility
that requires our most heartfelt effort.

The DeTar Healthcare System stresses a family-centered approach to childbirth and pediatric care. Since the hospital's beginning in 1925, DeTar has delivered over 60,000 babies. Many of our nurses have been here for ten years or more, and have achieved accreditation from the National Corporation of Certification of Obstetrical, Gynecological, and Neonatal Nurses.
It is that level of experience that has earned DeTar the reputation of being the leader in obstetrical services in Victoria and the surrounding area. Improved technology, skilled physicians and staff, and a superior neonatal special care unit have all contributed to the degree of excellence recognized in DeTar's maternal health program.
Housed in the newly renovated DeTar North campus, each patient goes through the entire process of labor, delivery and immediate recovery in a comfortable, homelike room. Gynecological patients receive the same focused attention and treatment. Like the Center's values, the physical structure of the Women & Children's Center has been designed to support you and your family. The second floor of the Center has been dedicated to the care of women while the fourth floor has been designed specifically for pediatric patients.
