Your Hospital Team

Ethics Committee

The DeTar Ethics Committee is a volunteer group which provides advice and support to anyone faced with a medical crisis. Committee members include healthcare providers, educators, attorneys, social workers, psychologists, clergy, business leaders and members of the community. Since ethical dilemmas reach across all boundaries of culture, race, religion and value systems, the diversity of occupations and interests represented on our volunteer committee aids in finalizing resolutions.

Any staff member, patient, family member, significant other, or physician may ask for an Ethics Review meeting. You may contact the Committee through any of the following: Social Services, Pastoral Services, or Nursing Services. Once contacted, a meeting with the Ethics Committee will be arranged. The recommendations of this committee are just that, recommendations. You are not obligated to follow the committee's advice. For more information, please contact Joe Crisp at 788-6001.

The Medical Staff

The physician who admits you is responsible for directing your care while you are in the hospital. Your physician, as the coordinator for your treatment program, should be consulted if you have questions about your illness.

The Nursing Staff

Twenty-four hour nursing care is provided by a team of professional registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses and nurse assistants. A nurse manager is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care on each unit. Please feel free to contact your nurse or the nurse manager if you have questions or concerns.

Pastoral Services

DeTar believes that total patient care includes the spiritual, the physical and emotional needs of each patient. Members of the pastoral services staff are available to assist you, whatever your religious tradition. Our chaplain has received specialized training for hospital ministry. Your priest, minister or rabbi is always welcome to visit you while you are here. For more information or to request a visit from a pastoral care volunteer, please contact Joe Crisp at 788-6001.

Dietitians

The hospital maintains a staff of full-time registered dietitians to meet your dietary needs during your stay. If you have questions about your meals or diet, ask your nurse to contact the dietary department.

Social Workers

Social workers are assigned to each patient care area and are trained to help patients and family members deal with financial, social and emotional problems that relate to illness or hospitalization. Members of the department work with patients and families to help make arrangements for various needs you may have for rehabilitation equipment or home services after discharge.

Patient Accounting

A representative from the Patient Accounting Department can answer questions about your hospital bill and help you interpret financial policies and billing procedures at the hospital. You may contact Patient Accounting by calling 788-6020 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Housekeepers

Your room is cleaned daily by a member of the housekeeping staff. If there is a housekeeping problem in your room, tell your nurse and it will be taken care of immediately.

Volunteers

Volunteers contribute many hours of service to the hospital. They have various work areas, including the front information desk and the gift shop. They can be identified by their name tags.

Other Personnel

During your stay you may be visited by many other healthcare professionals, including personnel from the laboratory and radiology departments and physical or occupational therapists and guest relations/patient advocates. In addition, the DeTar family includes many behind-the-scenes workers, such as accountants, engineers, secretaries, food service workers and others who contribute greatly toward your well-being while you are here.
